Proposed Minimum Standards for Agencies - second consultation
The Agency Steering Group (ASG) recently conducted the first of three rounds of consultation concerning the proposed minimum standards for agencies. The ASG now wishes to enter into the second of these consultations with all stakeholders involved in the industry regarding the potential adoption of these minimum standards. We have attached three separate documents which we would like you to consider:
Document 1: Revisions from the first consultation
Document 2: Revised Proposed Minimum Standards
Document 3: Revised Standards of Service
We are requesting your views on documents 2 and 3 only.
The consultation period will run until 31st January 2005. Please send your responses to agencysteeringgroup@hotmail.com or alternatively to Donna Rubin c/o Deaf Direct, 13 Castle Street, Worcester, WR1 3AD. An outline of the consultation process is given below.
As with the first round of consultation, we welcome any comments you wish to make in relation to the proposed minimum standards. If you disagree with any aspect of the proposals it would be helpful to us if you could detail your alternative suggestion(s).
Should you feel able to support these revised proposals then we would be grateful if you could indicate this by affirming your support in writing. This will enable us to gauge the level of support and potential sign-up to the standards.
We look forward to receiving your feedback.

The consultation process
Phase 1
August - 1st October 04: First consultation regarding the proposed minimum standards. Completed
December 04 - 31st January 05: Second consultation regarding the revised minimum standards
February 05 - 31st March 05: Final version of the minimum standards devised. (revision based on feedback from the second consultation). Preparation for their adoption by the industry from April 05.
Phase 2
From April 05: The ASG proceeds to consider the establishment of a formal regulatory structure to oversee and monitor the agreed minimum standards.
During both phases the ASG will also be considering how it can best expand its representation and further develop its recognition and accountability to the industry. This will be an evolving process as the ASG continues its work.
