Benefits of Membership
Our work would not be possible without the considerable support we receive from our members. In much of what we do it is our role to harness the energy and resources of a member organisation for the benefit of all.
Membership of the Council is open to Charities and Professional Bodies working in the field of deafness. Our members' interests cover the full spectrum of deafness including the hard of hearing, deafblind, deafened and, of course, the profoundly Deaf sign language using community.
By joining the Council your organisation will be able to keep up to date with deaf issues through various media; our Monthly Bulletin, regular mailings by post and email, the weekly Parliamentary Report and by attending the many events that we hold during the year. You will be able to contribute to the debate and help to shape the destiny of deaf organisations in the UK.
We hold regular events and meetings for our members. These are an opportunity for our members to get to know each other, to share ideas and resources, compare examples of best practice, develop a greater understanding of each other's organisations, identify potential joint initiatives and partnerships, discuss the issues affecting deaf people and formulate joint policy.
Campaigns that we are working with our members on include the Access to Communication in English; working with the government and other deaf organisations following the official Recognition of BSL; supporting the campaign for better access to Health Services; and we co-ordinate the annual national Deaf Awareness Week each May.
As members your organisation can send delegates to our Conferences and Seminars at a substantially discounted fee. Recent Conferences include; Deaf People in the Workplace; Deaf People from Overseas; and Health Promotion for Deaf Communities. Seminars cover topics such as: Trustee Induction; Fundraising; Social Inclusion; Youth Work; Media and Setting up Deaf User Groups.
Members receive free copies of some of our Publications and a 20% discount on all others. Recent publications include: The Good Practice Guide; Setting up a Deaf Users' Forum and the proceedings of Conferences.
We are registered with the Criminal Records Bureau as an umbrella body for countersigning applications for Disclosure. This service is available to Member Organisations only, free of charge.
The Monthly Bulletin is sent to about 350 organisations. We include leaflets and fliers with the Bulletin, this service is also free of charge to Member Organisations.
All new members receive:
A FREE copy of the Good Practice Guide
A FREE copy of Setting up a Deaf Users' Forum
Members may display the Members Badge in their publications.
