The Jane Beech Trust was formed to create a living memorial to Jane Beech Keane who died of secondary breast cancer on 27th of December 2001. A group of her friends in the English Midlands together with those around the country are continuing her work.

Jane developed breast cancer in 1997. It was successfully treated by chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Jane became an amazing resource for the Deaf community, and for hearing people, as she studied and developed an expertise in cancer treatments and the various ways to promote health.

The Jane Beech Trust primarily works through running workshops called Love, Light and Laughter. We have held two to mark the 5th and 6th birthdays of Jane's child, Reuben: the first at Nottingham Deaf Centre on Saturday 22nd March 2003 and the second in Jane's home town of Stoke-upon-Trent.

Why Love, Light and Laughter? Jane did her best to bring these three facets of life into the Deaf community and we hope that the workshops will help to increase the light of understanding in the Deaf community about complementary health therapies.

What are complementary health therapies? In the broadest sense, they are issues to do with how we live our lives. How we develop a positive attitude to life using love, light and laughter, and also through herbs, oils and techniques such as yoga, reflexology, massage, acupuncture and many others, some of which we explain and demonstrate in the workshops.
