STAGETEXT The phenomenon that is Disney’s High School Musical comes to the stage for the very first time in a spectacular live touring production at The Mayflower. It’s the irresistible story of two teenagers – Darroch Hearing Centres offer free, no-obligation hearing assessments to anyone who wants to have their hearing checked during Deaf Awareness Week – Monday 5th to Sunday 11th May 2008. By booking an appointment, you can have your ears examined, your hearing tested and can talk to a hearing aid audiologist about any concerns you have about your hearing. Existing hearing aid users can have their hearing aids cleaned and checked free of charge. In addition, new and existing clients can find out all about Widex hearing instruments, from a Widex technical expert who will be in attendance during the week-long event. “Hearing loss is a very personal thing and I treat it as seriously as you do. To support Deaf Awareness Week I will offer a free hearing assessment,” says Paul Darroch. “This is a thorough, professional examination, and takes around 30 to 40 minutes. Of course, there is no obligation or commitment to purchase a hearing aid.” However, everyone deciding to try hearing instruments has a 4-week evaluation period before payment, ensuring their satisfaction with the system. Additionally, all purchasers of Widex hearing aids will receive 20% off the normal list price during Deaf Awareness Week. Darroch Hearing Centres welcome referrals from ENT Consultants, General Practitioners and other healthcare workers, as well as charities, employers and special needs groups. “I would particularly encourage anyone employing staff who work in noise to contact me, to get advice on how to comply with the current HSE regulations,” states Paul. By focusing on the person, not just the hearing impairment, we can help patients achieve a better quality of life by helping them to hear clearly again. Phone 0141 620 3865 or e-mail advice@darroch-hearing.co.uk to book your appointment. You can book a hearing test, have your existing hearing aids cleaned and checked or find out about the latest digital technology from the guest hearing aid audiologists who represent the foremost manufacturers of hearing aids. Few of us are aware of how taxing life can be when we have hearing difficulties. In fact, one in seven of us do experience hearing problems. The everyday sounds of conversation, music and laughter can be the hardest hearing environment to cope with. Constant chatter, excessive background noise, music and loud voices all make hearing clear speech almost impossible. The normal hearing person does not have to consider these issues, as the brain has more ability to discriminate and pick out the required speech naturally. This can lead to isolation, lack of confidence and lots more.
Karen Finch and her dedicated team are achieving a high standard of care and understanding of the difficulties faced by the hard of hearing. With today’s technology it is no longer necessary to struggle with hearing problems; the latest digital hearing aids are making vast differences to lives especially in social environments. All services are available by APPOINTMENT ONLY. Call FREE on 0800 0962637 to book your appointment today.

Deaf Alerter Scotland Deaf Awareness Week This year’s Deaf Awareness week will run 5th-11th May and will be supported by more than 250 deaf charities and organisations, under the umbrella of the UK and Scottish Council on Deafness. All organisations and employers should be looking at ways of ensuring they are equal access providers, and if they are not they should be seriously looking at removing barriers to improve access for Deaf and hard of hearing people. One of the most concerning barriers Deaf people face on a daily basis is not having access to fire alarm warnings in public access buildings and places of work — something most hearing people take for granted, but for Deaf people a fire alarm evacuation can be frightening and impose great danger! Deaf Alerter plc, the UK’s leading provider of fire alarm warning and messaging systems for Deaf and hard of hearing people, is offering organisations and employers the opportunity to attend a free seminar, accredited by The Construction CPD Certification Service, Continuing Professional Development program. The seminar does not only address how to provide safe fire evacuation and communication for Deaf people, it covers solutions that will enable all disabled people to have access to safe egress in public access buildings and places of work. The seminar looks at Acts such as the Disability Discrimination Act and the Fire Act and identifies what the law requires. Bob Bertram, (Fire Safety Adviser for The Scottish Parliament), has previously attended the CPD and commented: “From a personal Continuous Professional Development perspective, I recommend attending the seminar, it is an excellent way to gain an understanding of the barriers faced by Deaf students, employees and visitors and one of the options to achieve safe access and egress in an emergency fire situation”. If you would like to attend the
