DEAF AWARENESS WEEK in SCOTLAND

Darroch Hearing Centres are offering free, no-obligation hearing assessments to anyone who wishes to have their hearing checked during Deaf Awareness Week.

By booking an appointment, you can have your hearing tested and talk to a hearing aid audiologist about any concerns you may have about your hearing or hearing aids.

Existing hearing aid users can have their hearing aids cleaned and checked.

Darroch Hearing Centres also welcome referrals from ENT consultants, general practitioners and other healthcare workers, as well as charities, employers and special needs groups.

“ Hearing loss is a very personal thing and I treat it as seriously as you do. We offer a free assessment of your hearing,” says Mr. Darroch. “This is a thorough, professional examination, and takes around 30 to 40 minutes. Of course, there is no obligation or commitment to purchase a hearing aid.”

By focusing on the person, not just the hearing impairment, we can help patients achieve a better quality of life by helping them to hear clearly again.

Phone 0141 620 3865 or e-mail advice@darroch-hearing.co.uk to book your appointment.

The Hearing Care Centre Open Week
8th-11th May (9am - 5pm)

To celebrate this year’s Deaf Awareness Week we at The Hearing Care Centre, 5 High Street, Ipswich invite you to book your appointment and take advantage of our hearing care services absolutely free of charge. You can book a hearing test, have your existing hearing aids cleaned and checked or find out about the latest digital technology from our guest hearing aid audiologists who represent the foremost manufacturers of hearing aids.

Few of us are aware of how taxing life can be when we have hearing difficulties. In fact, one in seven of us do experience hearing problems. The everyday sounds of conversation, music and laughter can be the hardest hearing environment to cope with. Constant chatter, excessive background noise, music and loud voices all make hearing clear speech almost impossible. The normal hearing person does not have to consider these issues, as the brain has more ability to discriminate and pick out the required speech naturally. This can lead to isolation, lack of confidence and lots more.

Karen Finch and her dedicated team are achieving a high standard of care and understanding of the difficulties faced by the hard of hearing. With today’s technology it is no longer necessary to struggle with hearing problems; the latest digital hearing aids are making vast differences to lives especially in social environments.

All services are available by APPOINTMENT ONLY.

Age Concern Colchester’s help for older people with hearing impairment during Deaf Awareness Week

Age Concern Colchester is providing an active programme during Deaf Awareness Week (7-13 May 2007) to assist older people with hearing impairment problems.

There will be an exhibition at the Age Concern Colchester office at Globe House, 6 George Street from Tuesday (8th May) through to Friday (11th May) from 10 am to 4 pm. Information and advice will be available and on the Wednesday and Friday mornings a hearing aid audiologist from the Hearing Care Centre will be in attendance. They will be conducting free video-otoscope examinations of the insides of your ears – so come and see the working of your own ears on the screen.

On Tuesday and Wednesday mornings (8th and 9th May) we shall be having a visit from Jinty, a Hearing Dog for the Deaf and her owner Ann. Jinty has been nominated for Hero Hound as, on a number of occasions, she has alerted people to the plight of others.

The Hearing Impairment Unit of Lexden Primary School is also being involved with visits to the Friendly Tea Club on the Tuesday and the Thursday Get-Together two days later. Pupils and staff from the school will be singing to the older people and teaching them how to ‘sign’

Peter Simpson, Information and Headquarters Manager of Age Concern Colchester said, “Many older people suffer problems with their hearing but, unlike eyesight, they seem prepared to struggle on with only understanding a fraction of what they could hear with a suitable aid.

“We hope our activities during Deaf Awareness Week will show older people what is available to improve their hearing and the services that are offered to help those with a hearing impairment or loss.”
