Consultation Procedure

The UK Council on Deafness responds to government consultations on behalf of its members, when the proposed new policy or legislation has a specific relevance to deaf people.

When a general response from deaf organisations is considered appropriate, briefly the procedure is as follows:

• a lead organisation from amongst our members is identified
• our members are invited to contribute their comments
• these are then collated by the lead organisation into a draft response
• the draft response is sent to the members for their final comments
• the lead organisation then produces the final response
• this is then sent to the government department

The response identifies the lead organisation, those organisations that contributed and a full list of our member organisations is appended.

This procedure does not imply that member organisations cannot respond directly if they so wish.

The National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) focuses on issues that are generic to the majority of voluntary organisations and, through research and consultation with the sector, produces policy briefings on these areas. These areas include funding, public service delivery, charity law and regulation, partnerships etc.
