General Election to be held in Deaf Awareness Week
The Prime Minister has decided to hold the General Election during Deaf Awareness Week. Whilst that may not have been the only reason for choosing the date, it does present an ideal opportunity for organisations working with deaf people across the UK to gain publicity for their work and their campaigns. Local organisations should consider organising an event and inviting their local candidates or sending them an election manifesto of the improvements in services needed for deaf people.
Examples of Election Manifestos produced by national organisations are: RNID
www.rnid.org.uk , Sense www.sense.org.uk and
NADP www.nadp.org.uk/news.htm#elecmanf
There are many activities and events being planned around the country for Deaf Awareness Week, 2 – 8 May. To find out what is going on in your area go to the campaign website at www.Look-At-Me.org.uk . If you are planning an event and would like to promote it on the website please email the details to Sylvie Say s.say@deafcouncil.org.uk
