CAMTAD was the idea of the late Mrs Dorothy Parry, a lipreading teacher, and was founded in 1978. The first volunteers were trained in June 1982 and the first volunteer visiting commenced in 1983.

CAMTAD's aims are two-fold:
1. To spread information about the problems of hearing impairment
2. To help people with acquired deafness

CAMTAD Services available

• Follow-up service to new hearing aid users
• Regular visits to residential homes, sheltered housing and wards of local hospitals
• Visits to housebound people
• Environmental equipment available on loan. Assessment of needs and issue of equipment through our joint worker with Cambridgeshire County Council Sensory Team
• Battery issue
• Receptionist's cards to encourage better communication
  
  Hearing Help Sessions in local areas around South Cambridgeshire villages, East Cambridgeshire including Ely, and Cambridge City, offering advice and hearing aid care including re-tubing NHS hearing aids.
